Dr. O. Arivazhagan delivered a Guest Lecture on "Current Trends On Construction Project Management"

Our CEO Dr. O. Arivazhagan delivered a Guest Lecture on "Current Trends On Construction Project Management" on May 6th for the Under Graduates and Post Graduate Students of Chennai Institute of Technology. The lecture consisted of three topics on The Importance Of Project Management, Project Management Methodologies and Emerging Trends in Construction Project Management.

He spoke about the importance of project management in organizations that cannot be overstated. When it’s done right, it helps every part of the business run more smoothly. It allows your team to focus on the work that matters, free from the distractions caused by tasks going off track or budgets spinning out of control. It empowers them to deliver results that actually impact the business’s bottom line. And it enables your employees to see how their work contributes to Strategic Alignment, Leadership, Clear Focus and Objectives, Realistic Project Planning and Quality Control. Most of the companies believe that Project Management is critical to the performance and its success.

He also highlighted on the Project Management Methodologies like Waterfall Model, Fasttrack Model, Agile Model, Hybrid Model. Project and Development Life cycles. The project life cycle comprises of the set of phases into which a project is organized. Depending on the organization in question and any overlapping between phases, various types of project life cycle can be defined: predictive or classic life cycles define the product and deliverables at the start of the project; iterative or incremental life cycles adopt an approach that gradually increases or expands the product in steps; and adaptive or flexible life cycles develop the product through numerous iterations, with the scope for each iteration only defined at the start thereof. He explained about Agile Manifesto that talks about Customer Satisfaction, Welcoming Change, Deliver a working Software, Collaboration, Motivation, Face-to-Face Conversation, Measure the Progress as per the working software, Maintain Constant Pace, Monitoring, Simplicity,Self organized Teams, Review the Work Regularly.

Lastly he spoke about Emerging Trends in Project Management wherein IIT-M built their first 3D printed house, the built-up area of about 600 square feet – the house consists of a Single Bedroom, Living Room and Kitchen. This 3D printer is automated manufacturing method for constructing three dimensional real-life structures. The lecture was concluded with a Q&A Session and live interaction with the participants who questioned Dr.Arivazhagan on various topics. The lecture was a rousing success among the students.
