* Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Important Note: The Contact Hours Requirement Has Been Modified

The education and/or training contact hours required for the pilot has been modified to 25 hours. After the pilot, the requirement will be 35 hours, as originally communicated. This will enable applicants to utilize more of the existing education and/or training courses in business analysis while allowing training providers more time to build and enhance their courses to fulfill the 35 hour requirement. All applications submitted after 4 August 2014 must fulfill the 35 hour requirement.

What content counts as business analysis education and/or training?

The contact hours must be specific to business analysis topics. Examples of topics could include: requirements management, traceability, elicitation, data modeling, and business analysis planning. All contact hours should align with domains, tasks, and skills detailed in the PMI-PBA Exam Content Outline.

If a project management course was taken, only those hours that specifically covered areas related to business analysis can be attributed.

How can these contact hours be obtained?

They can be achieved through completing courses offered from an employer, training company, college or university, PMI Registered Education Provider, or distance learning company, to name a few. You will need to demonstrate an end-of-course assessment or tutorial and/or a certificate of completion from the course provider. Webinars will not count towards the contact hours.

Is there a timeframe for these hours?

Applicants can record any education and/or training in business analysis topics, regardless of when it was accrued. However, all contact hours must be completed by the time you submit your application.
